Striped
Macassar Ebony is a hardwood used for sides and backs. It comes from East
Indonesia and is highly sought for both its striking appearance as well as
its tone. It is up to you to decide whether the wood is black with light
brown stripes or light brown with black stripes. Ebony is a dense wood,
therefore it is a little heavier than most tone woods but this only serves
to enhance it's rich tone. Paired with a nearly white Engelmann Spruce top
it produces a very beautiful instrument. For the fingerstylist, this
combination of woods provides a rich balanced sound. The ebony imparts
bass notes that are full, yet not overpowering. |
